Introduction to “Building Brand Wealth”

I work in a tough, extremely competitive world of marketing. It seems these days that everyone is a marketing pro, even those that own their own business delivering services from home repair services to jewelry and everything in between. Having been a business owner that has started five separate companies I have come to understand this issue from the business owner’s perspective. There is great concern with business owners about where their marketing dollar goes and how does it really help them. Why should they spend the money, and then who should they spend their money with and why. These are questions we in the business must face every day. As I ponder the purpose of what I have chosen to do as my vocation, I champion ethics in the process of building a successful branding effort. I have come to understand that what I do for my clients is considered an essential part of their business. This has become the essence of what my profession represents to the business world and makes what we do essential in the life of a business. This is not meant to be a “How To” step by step narrative in the process of marketing your business, that is for another discussion. This is instead a discussion for two specific disciplines in this space, the business owner and the other less invested people that aspire to become the “Best in Class” marking professional.I don’t intend this to be a lecture to my other fellow marketing professionals that have clearly established their credentials; they will see what this is aimed at and will embrace this conversation as “spot on” for the benefit of their clients. Let’s set the table for this discussion as we move forward. The business owners, which will be the primary benefactor, will see the value in reviewing for themselves what they have done in considering their own “Brand Wealth”.Now we all have to start by taking a step back when faced with the challenges of a business prospect. We first understand not all will have interest in what you have to say, so you must understand what your value proposition is to them and help them understand this as essential to any branding effort. Not everyone will be in this space; they either don’t understand it, or they distrust it. The vast majority of the business owners don’t see how marketing their business will deliver the revenue in return. As a professional, the first thing we do, which can be very difficult to do, is qualify that business by understanding who you can help and who you cannot. Those that charge in with the request for price (RFP), set up the out of the box process prior to the proper process of discovery. Failure to recognize the value of this process is the basis of failure. How can you offer proper assistance, or will you end up doing more damage than good? Will your client be better off for your relationship or will you accomplish the purpose of drawing down budget dollars instead? An approach like this is could be reckless and will only serve you and not your clients. Unfortunately this is far too common and is destructive to all those that follow in the wake of this approach. This is the point of separation for the professional. The professional approach is different, as a business owner, be wary of those that present you with a plan from an RFP or a one plan fits all approach. That is a recipe for failure and a waste.Let’s understand what “Building Brand Wealth” is. Why do we need to have this discussion? When a business owner forms their business, they have recognized how they can provide a product or service within a niche they have identified. They can do it better, faster or cheaper than others. Before they start their business, they see their niche as significant with its marketability being very clear. They feel so strongly about their opportunity they invest everything they have in their business, some invest their retirement, their homes equity, and in some cases money from friends and family. This is a deeply personal level of investment only they can understand. Unless you have been there, you cannot speak to this with the kind of clarity as those that have. This personal investment is the single most overlooked aspect of virtually every marketing strategy. “Building Brand Wealth” should be the single most important aspect of any business plan, yet is overlooked or is begrudged from the outset of the businesses opening day. But if you stop to think about it, the brand strategist is the single most important professional in the board room. As a business owner they are sure to have their attorney, their accountant, banker, and sometimes their insurance agent alongside them in the decision making process. Without the success of their business, none of those advisers sitting with the business owner at the table will become necessary, except perhaps the bankruptcy attorney.Everyone looking in from the outside assumes the owners of a business are very wealthy simply because they are owners. This could not be further from the truth as all owners can attest to. But they can become very wealthy if their ideals in starting their business translate to the consumer in a way that they will pay good money for their product or service. Managing the process of getting there in a way that can be cash flowed and developing the wealth in their brand. The exit strategy that is in every good business plan will be best served only if the start of the business was centered on “Building Brand Wealth”. This becomes an essential conversation that any business owner will have every time they meet with their banker, attorney, and insurance agent throughout the life cycle of their business. Then when they meet with their business broker they will have greater value in their business at the point of exit only if they have made “Band Value” a priority from the start. As we carry on with this discussion, it is important for the business owner to first understand why they started their business. My first advice would be to put this in writing, you must understand and have the ability to articulate this to anyone you are coming in contact with. Once you have done this, you will be ready for PART TWO of “Building Brand Wealth”.

Small Business Marketing Review – Legendary Brands Part Two

This is Part II of our review of Vincent’s work, Legendary Brands: Unleashing the Power of Storytelling to Create a Winning Marketing Strategy. Remember, the main thrust of this book is how a brand can interact with a customer’s own story. It’s worth repeating this important quote: “It is how you activate the personal narrative that determines your ultimate connection to the customer.” (p. 96)The second part is essentially the “how to” portion of the book. Chapter Five, “Investigating Brand Narrative”, offers guidelines on what to do as you go about uncovering the ways in which your customer’s story can interact with your company story. Revisiting again the “Kodak Moment” ad campaign–Kodak didn’t try and tell its customers “You’ll take award winning photos with our film”–that wasn’t what was important to most of their customers. Rather, preserving the great memories of the good times they had experienced with their families was far more important to a greater number of consumers. Pages 109 and 110 are especially useful for the Chief Marketer.Chapter Six is “Crafting Brand Narrative”, and it is here that you are going to determine what story you are going to tell. We found great tips in pages 144-150, and more practical guidelines for the small business owner.Another of Vincent’s useful insights is his idea of creating a “brand bible”. This is a physical guideline to use to help you double-check that your marketing and promotion efforts stay true to the brand. We discussed the value of archiving past promotions in an earlier article when we outlined the merit of a promotions vault. The value of tangible guides to help us in our marketing can’t be overstated. Smart marketers often come up with great ideas, but then at times our own inspiration can be a bit off or possibly overzealous and we can stray from our mission. Vincent’s idea of a brand bible to help you stay on track with your brand is a great idea for anybody involved in small business marketing.Another very important topic Vincent covers is the idea of “brand stewardship”. For many successful brands, the company doesn’t completely own the brand, it actually guides it. So the role of the marketer becomes that of steward or guardian but also shepherd of the brand. Yes of course, the company may own the logos and sayings and trademarks of a brand, but the way in which the brand interacts with a customer’s life can’t really be owned. This is a key concept for small business marketing, as well. You simply can’t control what the customers say about you. At best, you can influence what they mention about your company.Vincent has some valuable insights for the brand steward. One important note is that you need to listen to the people who are most fanatical about your brand when they give you feedback (p.206). He examines the phenomenon of the launch of New Coke and the instant negative reaction some of the Coke faithful had to the new product. This type of brand fanatic brings to mind the mavens Malcolm Gladwell mentions in The Tipping Point. Small business owners need to pay attention to these people because they are often devoted to the company’s product at an extreme level. If possible, seek them out for some feedback on your next marketing campaign before you launch.Lastly, we know that many of you work with a very established brand in your small business. Your small business may have been around for decades; it may be on its second or third or fourth generation owner from the same family. Legendary Brands delivers an informative case study in Chapter 12, Rescuing the Troubled Brand. Although this chapter deals with the West Coast fast food chain Jack in the Box and how it was able to recover from a crisis, the chapter includes some interesting ideas for a small business which has possibly strayed from being true to its former brand roots. If you wish to use story at all in improving your small business, we urge you to give Legendary Brands a read.Remember: Brand (who you are) + Package (your Face to the Customer) + People (customers and employees) = Marketing Success.© 2006 Marketing Hawks

Driver’s Seat – The Real First Step To Making Your Business Irresistible

Many people seem to think that the answer to creating their successful business lies in a book, a program, a system… a guru. While each of these have great merit and can inch you forward to the next level of wealth and freedom, they are not where you actually start.Unfortunately, this first step is often glossed over, taken for granted, assumed, and if even identified… discounted as divine guidance. Yet it’s the one guaranteed step that will ALWAYS determine if customers pass you by or find your business irresistible. This step is the first brick in your foundation, the first pebble laid in your path…the first law. Once firmly in place, it holds everything in your business together and is the fuel that will give you lift off… over and over again. You’re probably asking yourself, “If this first step is so darn critical… why is it often missed?”
Great question. My answer, “People have forgotten how.”With so many things coming at you as an entrepreneur–so much information to wade through, so many possibilities, so many win or lose decisions every moment–each day could seem like you’re in a do-or-die (translated means stop and go get a job) war.Heck, even I find myself forgetting in isolated moments of weakness and disappointment…in results…and yes…in myself. But the thing that instantly brings me back to the place of illumination every single time is the very same thing that enables you to persevere to deliver a product or service that will make the lives of people who buy from you better.
It’s the fail-safe button that enables you to turn on the “law of attraction” and turn low value into high value. It’s the magical elixir injected into the core of your business that makes people want it.It isn’t found in a book, a program, a system… or especially in a guru. It’s found in… you.
Belief… is the “real” first step to making your business irresistible. Without unwavering belief, any applied program, system or modeling will eventually implode on you.
Belief:o Acceptance by the mind that something is true or real, often underpinned by an emotional or spiritual sense of certaintyo A statement, principle, or doctrine that a person accepts as true
Not to be confused with… hope.Hope:o To have a wish to get or do something or for something to happen or be true,o A chance that something desirable will happen or be possibleo Something that somebody wants to have or do or wants to happen or be true
Hope is bad for business… belief is its life blood.Walt Disney, one of the most influential and innovative entrepreneurs of the twentieth century, said, “I dream, I test my dreams against my beliefs, I dare to take risks, and I execute my vision to make those dreams come true.” The Disney Company, despite it’s high and low points, is still one the biggest powerhouses in the world.Steve Jobs, one of the most influential and innovative entrepreneurs of the twenty first century (and currently the largest shareholder of Disney), said, “Our belief was that if we kept putting great products in front of customers, they would continue to open their wallets.”
In his 2005 Stanford Commencement speech, Jobs revealed what kept him going through challenging times when he said, “I’m convinced that the only thing that kept me going is that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love.” That love is fueled by belief. As the theory of Unified Conscious Development (UCD) indicates, it is where the heart and mind are blended as one.
Despite being kicked off his own board, and working his way back in though his follow-up company NeXT, Jobs is leading Apple to be one of the most influential companies of our times. By the way, it is recognized the world over as a leader in its category–a true brand. How? One thing… belief — clear, strong, unwavering, clear… did I say clear?
Unfortunately, you cannot manufacture belief for any sustainable amount of time. It takes so much energy to uphold, you run out of steam before you win the race.
You cannot pretend to believe because any adversity will send you running for the hills.
A belief is not merely an “idea” the mind possesses; it is an idea that possesses the mind.
With YOUR idea in place, here are the eight crucial points you need to have secured so that you remain a beacon of belief:1) Manage Your FearWhen you think that you can’t, or you don’t have, or you don’t know…what do you do, you stop.
Without a 100% fail-proof process to transform ANY limiting thought into immediate action you will not be able to create a successful business. Note: Striving to eliminate fear is as fleeting as pretending to believe.2) Define Your VisionOnce you have an idea, to ensure that it connects to customers and has a place to grow, you’ve got to attach it to a solid point out in the future that draws you forward. You are in charge and must set it in motion. Without converting the expanded nature of vision into a tangible form there is nothing solid to guide you. In order for your vision to serve you well it must be VERY specific.3) Delineate The FormThere is the specific structure that your business or businesses take in order to serve your vision. The structure acts as a house to provide your products, services, the people who work there, including you, shelter. This should incorporate your overall structure and the products you sell.
Note: One vision, one business is not necessary true. Often it’s one vision, many businesses.4) Rate The MeritsThis is where you take an honest look at your idea, your ability, your idea’s bearing on a market, what it will take for you to make it happen AND what you are willing to commit to accomplish it. This is should also include market feasibility and revenue model.5) Take An InventoryTake stock of all that you have at this specific moment. This helps you clearly see what you already have to assist you in making your business materialize from the unseen belief to reality. This should include where you came from, where you are at, what you have in front of you, and what’s accessible to you.Note: This is where you have to be sure hope doesn’t rear its hopeful little head.6) Expose the GapBring to light the difference between where you are now and where you want to get. In order to know the next step to take for your business, you have to clearly see what is missing. Attaining success in business you are forever closing the gap.7) Define Your FocusIf you have many things in front of you to do, what you do you chose to do? There’s a high probability that you won’t do anything. Or at very least not implement the right thing first. You must use your natural skill set, your knowledge, your aptitude and your resources to make your focus work for you.8) Flip the SwitchThe room is still dark, unless the light is turned on. You have to take action and actually flip the switch. With the other seven points in place, its ea*sy to generate a profound sense of belief in your business so much so that it propels you forward, attracts all the customers you can imagine and you find a business that you love. You already have the power to believe. It’s an inalienable right of being an entrepreneur. You simply have to Turn Up the Power.

Rethinking Your Business Plan? Be Sure to Include This

If you’re wise, you’ll be rethinking your business plan right now. We’re in the midst of a significant disruption of business, and every business is affected.

Do you find yourself reacting to what is happening day-to-day because of all the uncertainty? Creating a new plan, instead of reacting, is a more effective way of managing this disruption.

That plan doesn’t have to be 5 years or even 1 year into the future. In fact, I recommend something quite short-term, 3 months, to plant you firmly in the present.

I’m guiding my own clients in development of their 3-month plans. I’ve created a 3-month plan for my business too. This planning creates an opening to look at immediate opportunities, and to be creative and innovative about new opportunities or pivots for your business.

The bakery with a hot table that now sells farm-fresh vegetables. The app developed by a biotech company to track new cases. The sharing of customer service folks with an online business to keep their people employed. All these creative pivots came out of short-term planning.

Are you stalled because you feel you have to have it all figured out and that doesn’t seem possible, even for the next 3 months? Let’s be real: this situation is new to everyone, and we’re all in the process of figuring out what’s next.

That said, it doesn’t mean doing nothing is the remedy. You can ask for good mentoring from an experienced business person, someone like me and others who’ve been through ups and downs.

You can also ask good questions of your clients and prospects. Be creative in how you could address what they need. Think and feel your way through your options.

It’s time to be resourceful, and planning will help put a clearer direction on your days. It’s the planning that is clarifying just as much as, if not more than, the plan.

A short-term plan doesn’t mean that you don’t look at the longer-term implications of your plan, especially financially. Do that too before you commit to your new 3-month plan.

But how do you create a new plan, even a 3-month one, that isn’t just one big reaction? You and your business could be sent far off track by a plan that just looks at what’s in front of you right now. It can make it even harder to recover.

That’s where a focus on your business’ impact comes in. Your Impact Purpose is a single statement that is high-level, overarching. It’s more than mission, more than purpose, even more than your Why. It’s a dynamic interplay between you/your business and the contribution you’re making.

Your Impact Purpose is where you and your business meet the world and contribute to making it better for all of us. Just what we need right now. And honestly? We always need that exchange between self and others.

Your Impact Purpose is rooted firmly in your values, so a focus on impact means you stay true to what’s important to you.

With your Impact Purpose as your guide, you can shift plans quickly if need be, and still stay on track. How your impact unfolds in your business doesn’t have to follow just one path. That’s why it’s such an effective focus in highly changeable times like these.

It can be scary to re-examine where your business is going. Running projected financials if trends continue may take some deep breaths to contemplate.

If your impact scares you, you may have some difficulty dealing with the rapid changes you are facing. I know my own fears of visibility kick up whenever I increase my impact.

You don’t have to let any of that stop you. This is an opportunity to reimagine what your future and the world’s future can look like.

When you do, you can take that opportunity to reimagine the role you can play as a leader. I find myself braver than I’ve ever been in being present to ways I can support and inspire you with my own leadership, even though I’m still afraid of being more visible. That may be true for you too: you’re also seeing ways to serve your clients, and doing it with courage.

Would you like to have a guiding light for your business right now? You can. Clarify your Impact Purpose, and use it to pull you forward.

The future may not be looking the way you thought it would. That doesn’t mean it’s not an opportunity for your business to have more impact. It’s an opportunity for you to lead in new ways.

Worker Shortage Might Be Excellent News For The Economy

A worker shortage might be excellent news for the economy! Maybe, just maybe, firms will awake and see workers’ substantial contribution to their success. Some CEOs take unconscionable sums and destroy their firm’s value, unlike many frontline workers who create value. During the pandemic, CEOs took vast sums as they laid-off workers. Some firms sought bankruptcy protection, but hat didn’t stop their greedy CEOs from snatching hefty bonuses.

We have a worker shortage and firms are scrambling to hire whomever is willing. Some firms, like McDonalds have paid signing bonuses. Canada’s Loblaw and its competitors paid a bonus to frontline workers when the pandemic began. They stopped it after three months in unison with their competitors. When government confronted them about this collusion, they claimed it happened independently. Go figure! It’s like you caught your three-year-old with her hand in the cookie jar and she said, Mom, “Cookie Monster did it!”

Worker Shortage Inevitable With Shoddy Treatment

Loblaw’s behavior disturbs me. During the bonus period, profits soared. Per se, that’s no problem. I favor firms making profits. To be sure, I am against government taxing profits. But paying workers the bonus during the pandemic shouldn’t hinge on profits. It was just right. Meanwhile, my wife and I shopped at a Loblaw store and workers continued their excellent service despite Loblaw’s slight.

Leaders must realize frontline workers are the firm’s foundation and treat them well, not as cogs turning out CEOs bonuses! When employers treat workers like machines, they disengage. Gallup said, over several decades, they and other researchers found a strong link between employees’ workplace engagement and the company’s overall performance. Yet employers refuse to accept this. But there is good news: surveys show some firms break the mold and treat workers with respect: Cisco, Apple, Accenture, IBM, FedEx are a few.

Next Quarter’s Earnings Drives Businesses

Companies see next quarter as the prize, so they exploit workers and fudge next quarter’s numbers. I repeat: I am against government taxing business. However, I favor the Biden Build Back Better provision to tax share buybacks that the House passed, and it is before the Senate, even if it might have only a modest effect on share buybacks. Companies shouldn’t be spending billions buying back shares while exploiting workers.

Firms should present to shareholder meetings options to use buyback funds. Choices might include effects of paying bonuses to frontline workers with buyback funds. Shareholders should hear about potential strategic investments, too. Another option is stopping buy-backs for five years after layoffs. Executives, too, shouldn’t get bonuses within five years of layoffs. We must get rid of worker exploitation that enhances CEO bonuses.

Importance of Restaurant Marketing Agency

Restaurants need to encompass considerable marketing avenues for the sake of success. Without publicity and marketing, there are chances that the restaurant may not survive in the market. But with thorough planning and enactment, the restaurant’s promotion can grab the customer’s attention just like that.

The restaurant business is quite tough. It is difficult for the owners to flourish in this thrift and with very low profits. Restaurant owners are enthusiastic about food because not much profit is left after paying all the mandatory expenses like produce, wages, upkeep, and maintenance. Better so than eternally, restaurants publicity and marketing are necessary.

Some restaurant owners thoroughly expand their profit margin by contracting their business prototype and resemblance to others, assembling a franchise, spreading their reputation, and cultivating a future passive income. While others choose to concentrate on their flagship eatery, trusting that quality over quality is vital for drumming up future business.

Smart advertising encourages the restaurant owner to create a good reputation in the market and reach customers who might not even have heard about the restaurants near them. It also promotes the restaurants with discounts, offers, special occasions, and new items to the menu.

For marketing purposes, the best way is social media. Whether people are seeking someplace to dine in safely or looking for the best takeaway service, they turn on the social media app. The more the traffic drives to your specific website or page, the more you will succeed in this business.

What the advertising brings to the restaurants

It helps to target customers, as if the customers like the taste of the food at a specific restaurant, they will start recommending that place to their colleagues and friends. Advertising helps target particular types of customers and proves to be more effective.
Advertising certainly helps to stay competitive in the business. The competitors will be advertising their specific establishment to the customers. They will assume that the establishment has lacked publicity, is less thriving, and offers less than the other competitors.
Publicity and advertisement are thoroughly an investment. If the restaurant owner is investing wisely, they will surely profit from that. But the amount to be spent on publicity depends upon the area and type of restaurant. Usually, casual and family-specific restaurants do not spend more on advertising, while fine-dining restaurants spend more because they must create a lavish image.
Publicizing can certainly help to develop crucial aspects of the restaurant’s reputation. Advertising fetches the customers by creating the business’s reputation in the community.
Hiring a marketing agency can reduce almost all of the burden regarding advertisement. A good social media marketing agency can maintain whatsoever the name’s niche and aesthetics through social media. Great brand recognition can lead to more followers, leading to more traffic to the site and a boost in orders.

Uses of Silicon Carbide Ceramics in Different Industries

With the passage of time, there has been continuous development in the world of solar energy, nuclear power, smart grid, electric vehicles, rail transportation, aerospace, aviation, and navigation. Therefore, this trend has increased requirements for power equipment performance. These days, the first generation of silicon materials is about to hit the theoretical limit that was originally determined. The third generation features a wider bandwidth, electron saturation, and thermal conductivity. In this article, we are going to talk about a new type of material called silicon carbide ceramics. And we will specifically discuss the applications of silicon carbide ceramics in different industries. Read on to find out more.

As far as potential is concerned, silicon carbide ceramic is the most mature choice. As a matter of fact, many of its indicators are much better than silicon. For example, it has a 300% higher bandwidth. Apart from this, the theoretical operational temperature of this material is 600 Celsius. Now, let’s talk about the different uses of this material.

Electric Vehicles

Since these modules can have a sustainable, intelligent, low carbon, and green development, we can say that the advantages of this material are primarily reflected in the following three aspects.

1. Simplification of the power supply Network and boosting the frequency

2. Increasing the temperature and reducing losses

3. Improving efficiency and reducing the volume

As far as power conversion is concerned, components made of silicon carbide cal can help improve performance. In electric models, the active load-bearing component is the electric motor. These motors have different rotational speeds. Therefore, these motors require repeated acceleration and acceleration during the process of driving. Therefore, the working condition is more complex compared to the speed regulating system.

Transmission Systems

If you have a silicon-based device, your best choice is are switch made from silicon carbide. This is because this material has an extremely low resistance. Therefore, it is an ideal choice for applications where high frequency and temperature are involved.

The thing is that this material can reduce the loss of power by up to five hundred percent. Moreover, it is possible to reduce weight and size by over 40%. Therefore, it can help have a positive impact on the grid configuration and adjustment of energy strategy.

Solar Energy Field

If you are looking for advice that can be used in solar inverters, silicon carbide is an ideal choice. It comes with a small size, reduced costs, and much higher efficiency. Typically, the conversion efficiency of these inverters is around 96%. But if silicon carbide is used, it is possible to increase the efficiency to 97.5%. In other words, these devices can help produce power losses by 25%. Apart from this, these inverters can help boost conversion efficiency significantly.

LED Lighting

These days, the popularity of LED devices that use silicon carbide is on the rise. The thing is that these LEDs are much brighter and can reduce the cost by up to 50%. They are 200% brighter than other types of lights.

Similarly, they have 10 times more thermal conductivity. In routine life, you can apply this type of lighting for different types of environments, such as color display devices, information screens, indoor lighting, and signal lights. The thing is that they can help reduce pollution and cost.
